Governing Body Minutes - December 2016

In accordance with the Government’s requirement for all governing bodies, the 3 core strategic functions of Middleton School Governing Body are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

We are very lucky to have a very supportive and effective governing body. This included members of the local community, parents and members of staff, all of whom have been either elected or nominated. The term of office for each governor is four years.

The Full Governing Body meets four times per year in order to discharge its duties. In addition each governor sits on one of our two committees. These meet once per term and have different areas of responsibility.

The Resources Committee considers matters related to finance, staffing and premises. The School Improvement Committee considers matters related to curriculum , target setting, assessment and child protection.

Many governors are familiar with the school as either current of former parents. Other governors come from backgrounds either in education or in business and all are deeply committed to the school. All governors make one formal monitoring visit to the school annually and in addition many take great pleasure in attending assemblies and events at the invitation of the school in order to develop their understanding of the pupils and the wider community.

Our Headteacher, Dona Jolly, is a governor and sits on both the Resources and School Improvement committees.

Mrs Gemma Jeffrey is the Chair of Governors.

The changes at home have been nothing short of amazing. All of our family and friends have commented on how well he is doing. I can’t wait to see what happens next! Thank you to all of you, we are so grateful that he’s been given this opportunity.
